We have really embraced split stays...wife wasn't super wild with it at first, but now we love getting to experience two different resorts every trip. Its also super nice with the current promotion for free waterpark access on your check-in day!
You probably are well aware...but don't forget to buy your Salute Tickets! As a DVC/Mil Fam we buy the 6 day ticket and use three park days on one trip and three on another each year. Going to try and squeeze in a 3rd trip this year with the Salute Ticket being more or less an annual pass...really hoping they keep that
